Ohio's Crawford County Amends HPL Jail Contract

Crawford County recently approved an increase in Health Professionals, Ltd., a subsidiary of Correctional Healthcare Companies, contract to provide professional and responsive health services to inmates in the Crawford County Justice Center through July 31, 2010.

Wisconsin's LaCrosse County Amends HPL Jail Contract

The La Crosse County Judiciary and Law Committee has amended its contract with Health Professionals, Ltd. (HPL) for healthcare in the La Crosse County Jail. A 2.5 percent inflationary increase was added to the total along with the addition of a nurse practitioner for four hours a week. County Administrator Steve O’Malley said HPL has shown a willingness to work with the county to improve jail health care.

Youngstown’s Mahoning County Approves HPL Contract

The Mahoning County commissioners of Youngstown, Ohio have approved the final year of Health Proffesionals, LTD.’s (HPL) four-year contract for health services at all county jails. The contract covers medications for inmates and the services of personnel who provide the care, including a physician, a dentist, a psychiatrist and 22 nurses.

The Mahoning County Jail has an inmate population that fluctuates between 500 and 550 inmates.

Nurse shortage delays bookings at Sacramento County jail

Sacramento police officers are now spending up to five hours with their prisoners at the Sacramento County Main Jail booking room due to a shortage of intake nurses. The lack of nurses, who are responsible for approving inmates for incarceration, has been sidelining officers for a often a third or more of their shifts. As a result, nurses are feeling overworked and law enforcement agencies are frustrated by the amount of time their officers are spending away from their patrolling duties.

HPL Founder and President, Theresa Falcon-Cullinan, Loses Battle With Lung Cancer

HPL and CHC are both saddened by the passing of HPL founder and company President Theresa Falcon-Cullinan who succumbed to lung cancer this August. Falcon-Cullinan will be remembered as much as a respected OB-GYN – having delivered an estimated 5,000 babies – as for her philanthropic work and business savvy.
