Pharmaceutical Services

HPL is committed to providing the highest level of pharmaceutical service for our clients including the design of a complete pharmaceutical system for each facility. Due to the high number of inmates served by HPL, we are able to offer extremely competitive and discounted prices. We also partner with a national pharmacy that exclusively services correctional facilities.

For each facility, HPL provides a consultant pharmacist who will conduct an onsite audit and quality assurance review. The consultant pharmacist will ensure that all medications are properly maintained and stored, removing or replacing all expired medications. The pharmacist is also available to hold therapeutic committee meetings and will provide appropriate in-service training to the healthcare staff. In addition, each member of the HPL staff is thoroughly trained in the proper medication security procedures and documentation of medication distribution.

Each facility served by HPL is provided with medication administration charts, medications in individually labeled blister-pack form and a monthly comprehensive pharmacy utilization report. Medications are primarily prescribed from a preferred medication list established on a criterion of evidence based effectiveness, safety and cost. Policies and procedures are also in place to allow the prescription of any medication that is not included on the preferred list, based upon clinical need.
